Businesses serve a valuable function for the communities in which they reside. They sponsor youth programs, support local nonprofits, and contribute to important charitable causes. Active participation by businesses benefits the greater community and produces a sense of civic and social responsibility.
We want to put the focus on giving back to those in our community who have served our country. The men and women who serve work tirelessly to give us the freedoms and opportunities we have today. We hope to inspire others to give back to our Military Service Members and Veterans as a thank you for their sacrifice and that of their families.
Veteran Receives New Roof
Thomas Tribou and his loving family (including his fiance and their five children) reside in Connecticut. As a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Thomas proudly served his country with honor and distinction. His selfless dedication to fulfilling a higher calling in life reflects the heart of each military service member.
As proud homeowners, Thomas and his family desperately needed a new roof for their home. Having purchased their home three years prior, they were unaware that the existing roof had issues. Unfortunately, roof leaks began springing up almost immediately. These challenges created a complicated set of circumstances.
To try to resolve the leaky roof, the Tribous began saving money. At the same time, they were taking on several new, unforeseen expenses. Due to limited financial resources, they had to put off addressing this necessary repair work. Thankfully, a unique opportunity awaited this humble but deserving family.
As the Tribous sought a solution for their roof, Thomas contacted the local Habitat for Humanity. Facing financial hardship, he hoped for guidance regarding available options. Unbeknownst to him, Habitat for Humanity and Owens Corning began partnering in 2017 to install roofs on the homes of military veterans nationwide.
Courtesy of the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project, the Tribou Family recently received a new roof for their home. Designed to inspire, activate, and match the Owen Corning network of independent Platinum Preferred Contractors with military individuals and families, this program addressed a need.
For active duty military service members or veterans and their families, Owens Corning (including the Owens Corning Foundation) and its network of independent Platinum Preferred Contractors graciously donate the roofing materials and labor required to repair, replace, or restore their roofs fully.
Roof Repair and Replacement on a Veteran’s Home – Rhino-Back Roofing
Strong Local Partnerships
Local businesses needed to come together and generously pool resources to make this roof replacement project a reality for the Tribou Family. With the help of Owens Corning, VELUX, Paine’s Inc., Metro Roofing Supplies, Rhino-Back Roofing, K & G Masonry LLC, and Habitat for Humanity, this project became a success.
Without the backing of Habitat for Humanity and Owens Corning, many difficult obstacles exist when combining businesses in a joint venture to help a family in need. When organizations align their vision about achieving philanthropic pursuits, the results are meaningful and sustainable. Lives are changed and empowered.
Delivering Outstanding Results For A Deserving Family
Nothing beats a team effort. The Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project staff collectively pulled together the resources required to ensure a fast, efficient roof replacement at the Tribou Family’s home. Every business needs to perform its essential responsibilities professionally and expeditiously.
To begin the project, Rhino-Back Roofing stripped down the existing roof. Paine’s Inc. quickly followed up by properly disposing of the existing shingles. Metro Roofing Supplies stepped in to provide the replacement plywood required to install the roof. VELUX supplied the solar-powered fresh-air skylights for the new roof.
Rhino-Back Roofing replaced the Tribou Family’s roof using the roofing materials generously provided by each team member, including Owens Corning. K & G Masonry LLC handled the chimney repair as part of the process. With everyone united for a common cause, they successfully completed the project in just one day.
Social Responsibility Belongs To Each Of Us
Acting in a manner that benefits society, not merely the bottom line, defines how businesses demonstrate social responsibility. Adopting policies that promote the well-being of others, including less fortunate individuals and families, strengthens local neighborhoods and communities where businesses operate.
Through the joint efforts of the network of independent Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractors, the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project successfully promotes social responsibility. Each military family that receives a new roof experiences a life-changing opportunity that benefits the surrounding community.
